Building Preference Wizard: Self-Service Configuration Recommendations

Buyers don't know which insulation or building options are right for them. The Building Preference Wizard replaces a lengthy phone consultation with a self-service recommendation they can act on immediately.

The wizard runs in five steps and takes about two minutes. A live recommendation preview appears after step two — it updates as priorities change so buyers see their recommendation evolving in real time.

Five steps

1. Building use: What is the building for? (warehouse, shop, commercial/retail, agricultural, hangar)
2. Priorities: Rank what matters most — budget, construction speed, durability, or appearance. After this step the live recommendation preview appears.
3. Climate control: Will the building be heated and cooled?
4. Impact risk: What is the risk of physical impact to the building exterior?
5. Services needed: Electricity, plumbing, crane rails, mezzanine, other specialized requirements.

The recommendation engine

The engine maps priorities and use case to three insulation options:

• Blanket Fiberglass: Budget-optimized choice for standard commercial and industrial use
• Spray Foam: High performance, air sealing, better thermal efficiency — higher cost
• IMP (Insulated Metal Panels): Premium appearance, structural performance, cleanroom-quality finish

One edge case is handled specifically: sports facilities paired with budget priority and high impact risk trigger a durability warning about blanket fiberglass — ball impact and forklift contact degrade the facing quickly in those environments.

Where the wizard lives

On the marketing homepage, the wizard redirects to the quote form with preferences pre-encoded in URL parameters — so the estimator who receives the lead already knows what the buyer is looking for. During active project analysis, the wizard saves preferences directly to the project for use in proposal generation.
